Shrunken Head
Shrunken Head

These handmade traditional shrunken heads are made by the Amazonian Jivaro tribe in South America. They are made using natural resources; real animal flesh. The Jivaro tribe catch their prey “bush meat” for food and use the hides to create these shrunken heads. They may be made from rodent, goat or even monkey flesh so in effect they are real leather with real animal hair which adds to their mysteriousness and traditional look. They are hollow, water proof and very realistic. To finish they are smoke cured and hand sewn. The South Americans consider them a national treasure and it can be forbidden to export these replica shrunken heads. Each shrunken head is unique, sewn mouths & eyes, traditional plugged noses & ears, hair styles and a handmade macramé hanging thong.
